The Gem Tang (Ctenochaetus gemmifer) is a vibrant and striking saltwater fish, easily recognized by its deep blue body covered in tiny, sparkling turquoise spots and bright yellow tail. Native to the Indo-Pacific, this active and peaceful tang thrives in well-established aquariums of 75 gallons or more with ample live rock for grazing. Gem Tangs are excellent algae grazers, helping maintain a clean and healthy reef environment while adding dazzling color and movement to the tank. Hardy and generally reef-safe, they adapt well to community setups, though like most tangs they may show mild territorial behavior toward other tangs. With its unique coloration, lively personality, and functional algae-eating habits, the Gem Tang is a stunning and practical addition to any saltwater aquarium.
